Khenzom is a Tibetan-American artist based in Brooklyn, New York. She completed her undergraduate education at Yale University in 2023 with a degree in Environmental Studies. Nature serves as a muse in her artistic practice. Fascinated by the interconnectedness of all things, her paintings weave together human and natural elements in surreal scenarios, emphasizing the interdependence of human and non-human realms.
Drawing from symbols and motifs in traditional Tibetan thangka art, Khenzom's magical realist style reflects her heritage and upbringing as a Tibetan in exile. Like many young Tibetans in the diaspora, Khenzom has never been to Tibet, so her work often renders a vision of her homeland that is both constructed and supernatural. Through her art, she seeks to empower Tibetan women with magical abilities, challenge colonial narratives of Tibet, and visualize worlds where Tibetans are once again in harmony with their land. By blurring the lines between fantasy and reality, Khenzom's art invites viewers to reimagine the possibilities in our modern world, particularly in addressing environmental and climate crises.
